Rainbows in Germany!!

The "adventure" part of our travels continues. Imagine landing in a place where there is no commonality of language, we learn our cell phones don't work in this foreign land and it's time to hit the road -- leaving Switerzerland to go to Germany. Allen made a stop just around the corner and purchased Elsa, the European GPS system. For a brief moment we fear it it permanently calibrated in German, but he is able to figure out how to reprogram it and off we go.

We tell Elsa to take us to Hohenfels and we depart having slept soundly & recharged our sleep deprived bodies. A couple of hours up the road & we suddenly have the flash of insight that Elsa knows more than one Hohenfels!!! Sure enough we are able to piece together enough facts to realize we are on our way to the 'wrong Hohenfels.

Stopping at a Plaza gas station (where no one speaks English, with the exception of a ten year old boy, who speaks no German) we begin the genuine game of charades. A kind-hearted cross country truck driver takes pity on us & dials into his cyber connected phone to piece together the clues to ascertain which Hohenfels is our gen-u-ine destination.

I consider having a melt-down of concern, but as we hit the road again, the threatening clouds finally give us a sign from heaven & we follow the double rainbow to our night's rest.

Germany will forever be remembered as the land of red-roofed hamlets snuggled around a church steeple, nestled into verdant hill sides in full bloom.
